UH students, faculty, and staff borrow and renew materials with their Cougar Card.

Put an item on hold
Items can be requested from the catalog and held for pickup at any service desk.
Select the Request button () at the top of the catalog page for the item and log-in to your account. Select your pick-up location to submit the hold request.
If the item is available, it will be ready for pick-up in 2 to 3 business days.
Authorized borrowers for faculty and staff
Faculty and staff may designate individuals age 16 and up as authorized borrowers on their UH Libraries’ account.
Is what you need checked out already?
There are two options if an item is already checked out:
- Hold request: Select the Request button () at the top of the catalog page and log-in. Requests for checked-out items are ready after the item is returned and delivered to your pick-up location.
- Quickloan: QuickLoan creates an interlibrary loan (ILL) request automatically to borrow the item you need from a non-UH library. QuickLoan is only available if all UH system copies are checked out.
Select the QuickLoan button () on the catalog page for the item and log-in to ILLiad. You may need to create an ILLiad account if you do not have one. Review the information listed and submit the request.
Submitting an ILL request with QuickLoan is sometimes faster than waiting for the item to be returned. ILL delivery depends on the availability of the item and the policies of the lending library. Learn more about interlibrary loan.
Report a missing item
Submit a missing item form online via the catalog page of the item when it is not on the shelf. Select Report this Item Missing, then select Submit to be taken to the form.
Staff will search for the item for 5 business days. A notification email will be sent if the item is found. The found item will be held at the Service Desk for 7 days.
An interlibrary loan (ILL) request can be submitted if the item cannot be found. Indicate on the Report an Item Missing form to Request via Interlibrary Loan by selecting “Yes” and a request will be automatically generated.
Assistance is available at any service desk for help with missing items and requests.
Alumni and visitors
UH Alumni Association Cards grant alumni library borrowing privileges. Bring the card to the Service Desk in MD Anderson Library to create a library account. See library privileges for more information.
Visitors are welcome to borrow items using any accepted outside borrowers cards.
Renewals for UH Libraries items are made
- Online with My Account
- Calling the MD Anderson Service Desk at (713) 743-9710
- Visiting a library branch and renewing in-person
- Items borrowed through interlibrary loan are renewed with ILLiad.
Renewed due dates go from six weeks to one year, depending on the item and your status (undergraduate, graduate, faculty, etc.).
Renewals are not allowed on
- Course reserve items
- DVDs / VHS
- Books put on hold for another user
- Leisure Reading books
There are no renewals for blocked accounts or those with over $10 in fines.
