The UH catalog is the UH collections, including

Most items found in the catalog are physically located in a UH Libraries branch. Locate an item using its call number. If you need assistance, please contact us or visit any service desk.

Put an item on hold

Any physical item on hold is taken off the shelf and held for pickup at any service desk. To place a hold:

  1. Find the item in the catalog
  2. Select the Request button () near the top of the page
  3. You may have to log in with CougarNet
  4. Select your pick-up location
  5. Submit the hold request
  6. You may request as many holds as you need

If the item is available, it will be ready for pick-up in 2 to 3 business days. You will get an email when the item is ready for pick-up.

Is what you need checked out already?

There are two options if an item is already checked out.

1. Put an item on hold

  1. Find the item in the catalog
  2. Select the Request button () near the top of the page
  3. You may have to log in with CougarNet
  4. Select your pick-up location
  5. Submit the hold request

The item will be ready after the item is returned and delivered to your pick-up location.

2. Quickloan

A Quickloan request is sometimes faster than waiting for the item to be returned

QuickLoan creates an interlibrary loan (ILL) request automatically to borrow the item from a non-UH library. QuickLoan is only available if all UH system copies are checked out.

  1. Find the item in the catalog
  2. Select the QuickLoan button () near the right side of the page
  3. You may need to create an ILLiad account if you do not have one
  4. Review the information listed and submit the request

ILL delivery depends on the availability of the item and the policies of the lending library. Learn more about interlibrary loan.

Report a missing item

Submit a missing item form online via the catalog page of the item when it is not on the shelf. Select Report this Item Missing, then select Submit to be taken to the form.

Staff will search for the item for 5 business days. A notification email will be sent if the item is found. The found item will be held at the Service Desk for 7 days.

An interlibrary loan (ILL) request can be submitted if the item cannot be found. Indicate on the Report an Item Missing form to Request via Interlibrary Loan by selecting “Yes” and a request will be automatically generated.
