Student Art Exhibit

The William R. Jenkins Architecture & Art Library seeks to create a community of artistic exchange, innovation, equity, and social justice. Therefore it encourages student artists to submit their artwork for a chance to exhibit their work inside the library space.

Beginning in 2008, the University of Houston Libraries hosted an annual juried exhibit of student artwork, open to all students of all classifications and majors. A jury of professionals from the Houston arts community as well as UH School of Art faculty members selected work which was mounted each spring semester at the M.D. Anderson Library. After spring 2014, the very successful program, moved to the William R. Jenkins Architecture, Design, and Art Library in order to host solo and group exhibits all year-round. These exhibits rotate, then archived in the Student Art Exhibit’s UH Digital Library.

Open Call & Deadlines

  • Open Call Deadline: September 27, 2024
  • Selection is made by the Jenkins Library Staff, and once the selected artist will be contacted by email.
  • Exhibitions will be programmed for the 2024 – 2025 season, see below.

Submit a proposal

Applications are submitted online using the student art exhibit application form.

You must review and accept the terms of agreement on the form before submitting.

You will also need to provide:

  • Contact information
  • Brief Student/Group Proposal (title and a detailed description of the proposed exhibit)
  • Artist’s statement, 100-200 words
  • Brief artist biography
  • Artwork example

Visual Artists: Upload at least 2 images

  • Upload one or two images
  • Each work must have its own title, medium, year, and dimensions
  • Please label each image file as “lastname_artworktitle.” Example: smith_theblackcat
  • Accepted file types include JPG, PNG, TIF, and PDF. Max file size is 100MB.

Video/Performance Artists:

  • Submit a YouTube link or similar.
  • Please provide corresponding title, year, medium, and length for each piece.

Writing an artist’s statement

Artists are required to submit a statement to deepen understanding of their work.

Exhibit spaces


  • Incomplete submissions will not be accepted
  • Work must be original
  • Artists are responsible for delivering, installing, and picking up their work
  • The Libraries will not be involved in any sale transaction, interested buyers would need to get in contact with the artist directly
  • The exhibits are always free and open to the public
