Children and Visitors in the Libraries
The University of Houston Libraries provides an adult, unsupervised environment for the purpose of academic research and support of the University’s curriculum. Children cannot be monitored and supervised by the staff; therefore the safety of unattended children cannot be guaranteed.
Consequently children under the age of 12 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or adult guardian at all times. The University of Houston Police Department will be called to assume responsibility for unaccompanied/unsupervised children under the age of 12.
The resources of the Libraries are primarily intended for use by the UH community (students, faculty, and staff). Anyone aged 12 and over is welcome for the purpose of academic research. Visitors not engaged in such work may be asked to end inappropriate activities or to give up resources (such as computer workstations) for UH affiliate use. Anyone who engages in inappropriate activities or disruptive behavior, or who fails to follow directions from UH Libraries’ staff will be asked to leave the Libraries.
