The Learning Commons is a computer lab in the first floor of MD Anderson Library that caters to high-end multimedia and collaborative needs, providing:

  • Resources for creating digital media
  • Opportunities to learn about new technology
  • Assistance with specialized software
  • Space designed for group work and collaboration
  • A multimedia studio for producing professional audio

Services and equipment

  • Multimedia creation software (Adobe Master Collection, Camtasia, Apple iLife)
  • Numerical analysis software (SPSS, Matlab)
  • Productivity software (Microsoft Office, EndNote)
  • Self-guided help manuals and how-to reference books for provided software titles
  • Printers, both black/white and color
  • Stationary and mobile markerboards (ask the front desk for markers!)

Get help in the Technology Consultation Room

The Technology Consultation Room in the Learning Commons is staffed by student workers trained in software, hardware, and technical skills to assist UH students, faculty, and staff with one-on-one technology assistance.

Consultations are on a walk-in basis while the library is open.

There are roughly 35 Dell Optiplex PC workstations with dual 24″ in the Learning Commons.

Multimedia Studio

The Learning Commons is also home to the Hamill Foundation Multimedia Studio, a free service for the UH community to assist students, staff, and faculty in creating professional audio for high-quality productions.


The Makerspace, located within the Learning Commons, offers a specially equipped space for building objects and electrical devices.

Virtual Learning Commons

The Virtual Learning Commons grants access to all software available in the Learning Commons anytime, anywhere, on almost any device.
