    About This Collection

The Cruiser Houston Collection and related collections document the heavy cruiser USS Houston (CA-30), a peacetime favorite of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and flagship of the Asiatic Fleet during World War II. On March 1, 1942, the Houston was sunk by the Japanese Navy, and her surviving crew members were made prisoners of war. UH Libraries’ additional military history collections shed light on the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and other experiences of World War II.
