Mission, Vision, and Values

Our Mission

University of Houston Libraries serves the UH community by enhancing student learning, participating in the development of scholarly research and creative output, and promoting discovery of information and knowledge from diverse and relevant resources.

Our Vision

UH Libraires seeks to nurture curiosity and creativity by facilitating transformative learning and scholarship to help advance the University’s vision of increased academic standing and impactful success. We endeavor to create a library befitting a top 50 research university through inspiring spaces, transformative learning experiences, vital collections, and community engagement.

Our Values

Access

We build collections of national prominence that align with the research and teaching priorities of the University. We engage diverse audiences and provide seamless discovery of and access to these collections

Experimentation

We foster strategic experimentation and development of new ideas, programs, services, tools, and technologies that spur excellence within the Libraries and for the UH community.

Collaboration

We leverage the power of partnerships internally with strong interdependence and externally with faculty, instructors, students, researchers, and community partners to enrich services locally and expand our impact globally. We improve outcomes through collaboration with the local community, the UH system, and professional alliances.

Adaptability

We are deliberative in our assessment of, and interactions with, users and anticipate their changing needs. We are user-centered and foster an environment guided by flexibility and compassion to create a high-quality experience.

We cultivate a diverse, stimulating, and supportive work environment that attracts the very best in library talent, and encourages librarians and staff at every level to continuously develop and expand their knowledge and expertise.
